Mat Sabu says his relationship with Mahathir is beyond just love
(MMO) – The desire to change the country for the better was the reason behind him uniting with former rival Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, Parti Amanah Negara president Mohamad Sabu said last night.
Mohamad, popularly known as Mat Sabu, said many in the Opposition pact has moved beyond their differences with the former prime minister.
“The people never expected [for us to work together], I was very critical of Tun when he was the ruling government,” he said, referring to Dr Mahathir.
“Those within Pakatan Harapan (PH) with existing party or personal issues, or even with vengeful sentiments, if we had held on to those feelings, what will happen to the country.
“That is why we forget and move beyond our differences,” he added.
Mat Sabu went on to explain his current relationship with Dr Mahathir, describing it as an affection.
“Our affection for each other is strong, and nowadays when I do not meet Tun, I start to feel uneasy.
“It’s beyond the level of love the relationship I have with Tun.
“I am not a hypocrite, I have also condemned Tun in the past, but equally we have criticised each other,” he said during a PH ceramah, hosted by Wangsa Maju incumbent Datuk Dr Tan Kee Kwong at the Danau Kota flats.
Among those present during the ceramah that was attended by thousands included Dr Mahathir, his wife Tun Dr Siti Hasmah Mohamad Ali, daughter Marina Mahathir, and Batu incumbent MP Tian Chua.
Mohamad then explained how a feeling unity and solidarity for Dr Mahathir’s Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM) led PH component parties to contest under the PKR logo.
“When they announced that PPBM was an unlawful party, the leaders banded together and decided to unite and contest all state and parliamentary seats under the Keadilan flag,” he said.
