Uncertainty remains over Selangor PKR candidates for GE14

(The Star) – Selangor PKR has scheduled the announcement of its candidates’ list on Monday (April 23) evening but yet there is still much uncertainty, said a party source.

Incumbents who have apparently been dropped arrived at party president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail’s house in Segambut as early as 8.00am on Sunday (April 22) to plead to be allowed to defend their seats.

The entourage was led by Ampang MP Zuraida Kamaruddin, who is said to be acting as mediator between Dr Wan Azizah and the disgruntled group.

According to the source, among those in the group were the Petaling Jaya Selatan MP Hee Loy Sian, Rawang assemblyman Gan Pei Nie and Kampung Medan assemblyman Haniza Talha.

“Wan Azizah told them it was party adviser Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s prerogative to select the candidates,”  said the source.

He added that Subang (now Sungai Buloh) MP Sivarasa Rasiah, who is also one of Anwar’s lawyers, has been dispatched to meet the party adviser on Monday afternoon at 3.00pm.

“Anwar is currently being treated at the Cheras Rehabilitation Hospital where he is undergoing intensive physiotherapy after his shoulder surgery,” said the source.

The source also said there was a lot of strife within the party currently because both Dr Wan Azizah and Azmin were consolidating their positions pending the party’s election later this year.

“Many of those who were behind Dr Wan Azizah have jumped ship to join Azmin’s camp and that is the cause of the uncertainty,’’ he added.

He said there may be a change in candidates at the eleventh hour after Sivarasa has seen Anwar.
