PKR’s Rawang rep upset she has been dropped

(The Star) – PKR’s Rawang assemblyman Gan Pei Nei, who is upset that she has been dropped from the list of candidates in the general election, claims that she is a victim of a cruel poison pen letter.

The emotional assemblyman, who broke down in tears during a press conference, is angry that she had been accused of misusing allocations.

Denying that she had been absent from her work in the Rawang state constituency, Gan said she delivered a baby just a month ago.

Gan, who is said to be aligned to Selangor Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Azmin Ali who proposed her name, said even then, she only took two weeks off.

“In a meeting with PKR president Datuk Seri Wan Azizah Wan Ismail on Sunday, she told me that my name was suspended from contesting due to the poison pen letter,” she said here yesterday.

The letter, said the 37-year-old, had accused her of misusing allocations, adding that this was totally baseless.

“I strongly deny the accusation and am ready to be investigated by providing the necessary documents to defend myself,” said Gan, adding that it had affected her reputation.

“I would not reject the possibility that it might have been done by someone within the party, who questioned my credibility because I was absent lately due to my pregnancy.

“After delivery, I took only about a two-week break and resumed work last week.

“Many new mothers would take two to three months’ break. I still continue to work despite the need to breastfeed my child,” she said.

The two-term assemblyman, who had previously expressed her interest in defending her seat, said she hoped that she had not been made the black sheep over some useless issues.

“I am not happy that my name may be dropped due to something which greatly affects myself, my family and my staff,” said Gan.

However, she had said she did not intend to stand as an independent even if she was dropped as a candidate.

Asked if she would help campaign for PKR, Gan said her current focus would be to clear her name, adding that she had served the people of Rawang and her party for 10 years.
