Dr M, Anwar Ibrahim prevented Islamic administration – Hadi
(NST) – Pas president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang has blamed Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia chairman Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad and de-facto opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim for preventing Islamic administration from being implemented in Kelantan and Terengganu.
He said the Kelantan and Terengganu State Assembly’s under the Pas administration had passed the Syariah Criminal law respectively in the two states at the end of the 1990s, which he described as being meant to educate the people.
However, it could not be implemented as it was opposed by Dr Mahathir and Anwar who at that time were Prime Minister and Deputy Prime Minister respectively.
“Suddenly after it was passed, Dr Mahathir sent a letter to the Mentri Besar of Kelantan, Datuk Nik Aziz Nik Mat warning him not to implement … if it was implemented, the Federal government will act.
“As we wanted to preserve our relation, we brought the law to Parliament. I myself submitted the motion and tabled a Private Members Bill, however we were barred and prevented,” he said in a press conference here last night after attending the Ceramah Perdana Jelajah President Pas in conjunction with the 14th General Election.
Also present at the event was Negri Sembilan Pas Commissioner, Mustaffa Daharun.
