Hadi: Don’t make the wrong choice and let Dr M be PM again
(The Star) – PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang is urging Malaysians not to support Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad even if they “pity” him.
He said Dr Mahathir, who is leading Pakatan Harapan, wanted to rule the country again as prime minister.
“Don’t choose him (Dr Mahathir). Pity him. Let him repent. He was the PM for 22 years. He was the PM and the Finance Minister. Now he wants to return as PM. Don’t make a wrong choice.
“Even if (you) pity him, don’t choose him,” he said in a speech before announcing the Kelantan PAS candidate line-up on Wednesday night.
PAS dropped seven incumbents, including two MPs, to make way for 21 new faces in Kelantan.
It had also moved five incumbents, including three MPs.
Incumbent Kubang Kerian MP Ahmad Baihaki Atiqullah was dropped to make way for deputy president Datuk Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man, a non-Kelantanese from Pahang.
The seat is considered one of the safest seats.
Another out-of-state candidate named was Syura Council secretary Dr Nik Mohd Zawawi Salleh from Terengganu who will contest in Pasir Puteh. Incumbent Pasir Puteh MP Datuk Dr Nik Mazian Nik Mohamad was dropped.
Nik Abduh Nik Aziz, the son of the late Datuk Nik Aziz Nik Mat, has been moved from Pasir Mas to Bachok. He will face Barisan Nasional’s Datuk Dr Awang Adek Hussin and Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia’s Mohd Zulkifli Zakaria.
Incumbent Bachok MP Ahmad Marzuk Shaari was moved to contest in Pengkalan Chepa, while incumbent Pengkalan Chepa MP Dr Izani Husin will contest the Kijang state seat.
Incumbent Wakaf Bharu assemblyman Datuk Che Abdullah Mat Nawi will contest the Tumpat parliamentary seat.
In GE13, PAS won nine out of the 14 parliamentary seats, and 32 out of the 45 state seats.
It lost Tumpat and Kuala Krai parliamentary seats when its incumbents Datuk Kamaruddin Jaffar and Dr Hatta Ramli quit to join PKR and Parti Amanah Negara respectively.
PAS also lost the Salor state seat when it sacked incumbent Husam Musa for allegedly undermining the party and its leadership.
It has retained secretary-general Datuk Takiyuddin Hassan and former Muslimat chief Siti Zailah Mohd Yusof in Kota Baru and Rantau Panjang respectively.
Mentri Besar Datuk Ahmad Yakob said 34% of the 59 candidates were below 50 years old.
“We are also fielding 21 fresh candidates,” he said.
