Don’t spell my name as Mahiaddin, Muhyiddin tells Election Commission

(The Star) – “I am puzzled why the EC chose to use my other name” 

Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin has called on the Election Commission (EC) to make sure it gets his name correct.

The request was made by the Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia president, after it was discovered that the spelling of his name in the EC website was that of his MyKad (IC) – ‘Mahiaddin Bin Md Yassin’, and not ‘Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin’, which he had chosen to use on the ballot paper.

“The name I had chosen to use is that which I have been using in all previous elections.

“I am puzzled why the EC chose to use my other name,” he told reporters during a walkabout in Bukit Gambir on Sunday (April 29).

Muhyiddin said the move by EC would result in the name ‘Mahiaddin’ being printed on the ballot papers.

“This will result in confusion among voters,” he noted.

Muhyiddin said that he has instructed his representatives to alert the EC to make the necessary changes.

“They (EC) must print the name which I had stipulated for the ballot papers.

“If not, I will lodge an official complaint on the matter,” he added.

The name ‘Mahiaddin’ appeared for the Pagoh parliament and Gambir state seats where Muhyiddin is contesting.

Muhyiddin, the incumbent for Pagoh, will face a three-cornered fight against Barisan Nasional candidate Ismail Mohamed and PAS man Ahmad Nawfal Mohamed.

Muhyiddin and PAS syura council chief Datuk Dr Mahfodz Mohamed are challenging incumbent Johor MIC chief Datuk M. Asojan in Gambir.
