Muhyiddin went to Hong Kong to ask a billionaire for funds

Former Sungai Benut MP Tawfik Ismail says transparency would not be an issue if donated funds were deposited in a bank account to make them easy to trace.

(FMT) – A critic of Pakatan Harapan (PH) has urged the opposition alliance to practise what it preaches about transparency by revealing how it uses the money it receives as donations.

Speaking to FMT, former MP Tawfik Ismail pointed out that speakers at PH ceramahs would often call for contributions to the coalition’s campaign fund.

“When they receive this money, does it go where it’s supposed to?” he asked.

He also took aim at PPBM president Muhyiddin Yassin, noting that he had been reported as having gone to Hong Kong to ask a billionaire for funds.

“Will all the funds be spent or the surplus kept and not accounted for?”

Recently, a news report quoted former PPBM member Kamarul Azman Habibur Rahman as saying that Muhyiddin had told him he would meet a “super billionaire” in Hong Kong to ask for political funds.

“When I asked him about the funds, he said anything involving the party’s funds cannot be discussed during (party) meetings,” Kamarul said, according to the New Straits Times.

Tawfik, who served as Sungai Benut MP for one term, said it wouldn’t be an issue if donated funds were deposited in a bank account to make them easy to trace.
