Citing suit against Sarawak Report, Najib warns public against fake news

(MMO) – Malaysians must be wary of unverified allegations hurled against the government, Datuk Seri Najib Razak said today.

Referring to developments in London, UK, where Clare Rewcastle-Brown of Sarawak Report was ordered to pay PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang’s legal costs, the Barisan Nasional chairman said it proved the website’s allegation against PAS and Umno was false.

Rewcastle-Brown was ordered to do so after she lost her application to dismiss Hadi’s defamation lawsuit against her.

“What does this say?” he said during a visit at the Kuala Selangor parliamentary constituency.

“You should not believe every word and claim made by the Opposition on the social media or Internet… verify these always.”

The judge who ordered the payment then ordered a full trial to be conducted next April.

Hadi filed filed the defamation suit against Rewcastle-Brown at the London High Court on April 21 last year over a Sarawak Report article on Aug 6, 2016 that alleged he received RM90 million as inducement for PAS to support Umno and Barisan Nasional.

Both PAS and Umno have denied the claim.

Earlier at the event, Najib announced that Kuala Selangor will have its own hospital soon.

He also promised to consider a request by BN’s incumbent Kuala Selangor MP Datuk Seri Irmohizam Ibrahim for a MARA Junior Science College (MRSM) to be built in Ijok.
