Johor Sultan urges Agong to pick PM ‘now’
(MMO) – A new prime minister must be sworn in immediately in accordance with the will of the people, said Johor’s Sultan Ibrahim Iskandar today.
In a video posted on Facebook, he said Malaysians clearly expressed their desire for a new government yesterday and that their decision must be respected.
“With this, I ask that a government be appointed immediately and no more time be wasted. I hope Istana Negara will also appoint a new prime minister this very day. Now. Now,” he said.
He said his call was not for his personal interests, but for the good of the people.
He said he was eager to work with the new government, and was consequently eager to see a new prime minister named.
“I congratulate all parties that have achieved their aim,” he concluded.
Johor, the birthplace of Umno, was among states lost by Barisan Nasional that was defeated for the first time ever in yesterday’s general election.
According to the Election Commission, Pakatan Harapan parties have 113 federal seats or enough to form the federal government by a simple majority.
PH chairman and prime-minister-elect Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad is waiting to be sworn in, saying earlier that he hoped the ceremony scheduled for this morning will take place at least by 5pm today.
