Najib Razak is expected to be prosecuted following investigations into claims he laundered hundreds of millions from 1MDB.
(FMT) – Former prime minister Najib Razak has been asked to be present at the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) office on Tuesday to facilitate investigations into the case involving SRC International Sdn Bhd.
A MACC source said Najib was asked to give a statement pertaining to the case.
“A team of MACC officers have sent the notice (on the matter). So far he is asked to turn up next Tuesday to enable us to record his statement relating to SRC International,” the source said when contacted today.
SRC International was a subsidiary of 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) before it was placed under the finance ministry in 2012.
On Jan 25, 2016, Attorney-General Mohamed Apandi Ali was reported to have confirmed that Najib had not committed any criminal offences relating to the case involving a fund of RM2.6 billion and SRC International.
Apandi was reported as saying that based on all the facts and evidence, he was satisfied as the public prosecutor that there was no criminal offence committed by Najib in relation to the three investigation papers.
In this regard, an investigation paper related to the RM2.6 billion funds as well as two others related to SRC International were returned to the MACC and were ordered closed.
Earlier today, two MACC cars were seen entering the house of Najib, who is Pekan MP, in Jalan Langgak Duta here at 4pm.
The silver-coloured Proton Preve and Inspira vehicles, with eight MACC officers, were seen leaving the area at 5.41pm.
Earlier this morning, police seized 72 bags of jewellery, money in various currencies, and other valuables at a luxury condominium at Jalan Raja Chulan here, believed to be related to the former prime minister.
Bukit Aman Commercial CID director Amar Singh Ishar Singh reportedly said that 284 boxes containing various luxury brand handbags were also seized from three condominium units in the same area.
Najib and his wife Rosmah Mansor have been blacklisted by the Immigration Department from leaving the country.
On Tuesday, Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad said he expected Najib would be prosecuted following investigations into claims that he had laundered hundreds of millions of US dollars from the 1MDB fund.
