No decision yet on Najib’s arrest
(MMO) – The police team from the Federal Commercial Crime Investigation Department (CCID) conducting searches at properties linked to former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak has been reinforced with a team that specifically focuses on cases involving the Anti-Money Laundering Act (AMLA).
Sources told Malay Mail that the AMLA team, together with senior officers from CCID, will be the only investigators who will work around the clock to complete investigations related to the 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) scandal against the former premier at this point.
“It will be the same team that will conduct investigations till the end.
“We want to ensure that no information is leaked and having the same team will allow for a more organised investigation,” the police source said.
The source added that searches at Najib’s residence on Jalan Langgak Duta in Taman Duta are expected to be completed today.
“The raiding team will exit Najib’s house today,” the source added.
Meanwhile, the same source also went on to say police had yet to make any decision on a possible arrest of Najib or bringing him in for questioning so far.
“They still need time to establish the value of all items seized and to also discuss with other relevant departments in the 1MDB taskforce before finalising the next course of action,” the source said.
The simultaneous days-long search of Najib’s home on Jalan Duta, two units at the Pavilion Residences linked to him and his former office in Putrajaya began on Tuesday at 10pm.
In this morning’s raid, five Black Marias carted away 284 boxes of luxury handbags from brands like Hermes and Louis Vuitton from two units linked to Najib at the Pavilion Residences.
CCID director Commissioner Datuk Seri Amar Singh, who headed the search, said investigators also seized 72 bags of cash in various denominations, watches and jewellery.
