Hindraf 2.0 is a fake Hindraf, says chairman
(TMI) – HINDRAF today denied that it had asked the Pakatan Harapan government to open up Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) to non-Malays or made other demands on behalf of Indians.
Chairman P. Waytha Moorthy said the demands were submitted by his brother P. Uthayakumar, under the name of a fake organisation.
“Hindraf wishes to clarify we did not send any demand to the PH government, council of elders or the institutional reform committee. There is no such organisation as Hindraf 2.0,” he said in a statement.
“Its so-called leader P. Uthayakumar, is the leader of the Human Rights Party. He was never part of any Hindraf activities since 2008 as he wanted to develop his own political party.
“His actions have caused confusion, anger and hatred.”
Waytha said Uthayakumar must drop his confrontational path as the “war is over with the defeat of BN”.
“Hindraf wishes to invite Uthayakumar to formally join as a member of Hindraf if he so wishes,” he said.
He said Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad had given his commitment to Hindraf to resolve long standing issues and the group was already working with him and other Pakatan Harapan leaders.
“Therefore it does not make sense to take the confrontational approach towards the Pakatan government that Hindraf has fully supported as opposed to past obstacles Hindraf faced with Umno.
“Confusing the people with a similar name to Hindraf is not helping our long struggle to find permanent and comprehensive solutions to the people’s problems.”
A group that called itself Hindraf 2.0 submitted 25 demands yesterday to the institutional reforms committee to improve the lives of Indians, especially those in the bottom 75%.
One of the demands, that UiTM admit all Malaysians regardless of race, has sparked outrage among the university alumni and Bersatu Youth, who have spoken up in defence of Malay rights and privileges.
