Anwar to meet Selangor Sultan

(The Star) – The Sultan of Selangor has granted Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim an audience which will take place on Thursday (May 31) morning at about 11am.

Anwar’s scheduled meeting with Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah comes on the heels of a series of royal audiences that have been granted to him since his full pardon by the Yang Di Pertuan Agong Sultan Muhammad V.

It is understood that the Selangor audience was granted on the request of Anwar.

On Tuesday morning, Anwar had an audience with Pahang Regent Tengku Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah in a hotel in Kuala Lumpur.

Last week, the Pakatan Harapan leader and his wife Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah and their eldest daughter Nurul Izzah flew to Kota Baru for an audience with Kelantan Regent Tengku Muhammad Faiz Petra.

The Regent is the younger brother of the King and also present at the meeting was the King’s mother Tengku Anis Tengku Abdul Hamid.

However, the audience at the Kelantan palace led to rumours that Nurul Izzah, who is also Permatang Pauh MP, would be marrying the King.

Nurul Izzah and her mother have flatly denied the rumours.

Dr Wan Azizah seemed genuinely shocked when asked by reporters and had replied: “Astagfirullahaladzim. Do not believe in rumours”.

Shortly after his release, Anwar accompanied by Nurul Izzah, had an audience with the Sultan of Johor.

Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar had made available his personal private jet to fly the father and daughter pair to Johor Baru for the 2-hour audience.

The string of royal audiences seem to point to Anwar’s preparation to take over as Prime Minister when the time comes.
