We don’t share Rafizi’s view of Dr Mahathir’s part in GE14, says Mukhriz

(Bernama) – RAFIZI Ramli’s statement that Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad was not a major factor behind Pakatan Harapan’s victory in GE14 is a “personal view” that Bersatu does not share, said Kedah Menteri Besar Mukhriz Mahathir.

“That is probably his personal view and we have ours,” he said.

Mukhriz said it was not necessary for the PKR vice-president to question the victory.

“We feel that the question of the winning factor should no longer arise, as the results are already known and the government has been formed. As such, it is not necessary to bring up these issues.

“It is inappropriate to say such things now that the politicians are enjoying warm and cordial relations. It is best not to create a rift between the four parties, including Parti Warisan Sabah,” he said at Jitra today.

In Kuala Terengganu, state Bersatu chairman Razali Idris urged all parties to stop discrediting others, but concentrate on rebuilding the nation as pledged by the PH government.

Razali said the people wanted to see the leaders of the component parties working and cooperating to maintain unity, and it was not the time to discredit or belittle others who had contributed to PH’s success in GE14.

“Rafizi must remember that the people dared to change after seeing the strong coalition in PH led by Dr Mahathir. Alhamdulillah (Praise be to God), we succeeded in GE14 with the formula he developed,” he said in a statement today.

Rafizi was reported earlier as saying that the popularity of Dr Mahathir was not the winning factor for PH in GE14.

He said it was the rising cost of living and the implementation of the goods and services tax which had pushed PH’s defeat of Barisan Nasional.

Rafizi said that the matter was proven based on a post-GE14 survey conducted by Invoke Malaysia, which found that voters were more affected by these two issues compared to loyalty to Dr Mahathir.
