Jho Low lawyers to meet MACC to negotiate ‘witness protection’ in exchange for information
(The Star) – The hunt for Low Taek Jho has now shifted to Dubai as the fugitive financier had expressed his keenest, through his lawyers, to meet up with 1MDB investigators.
A source said based on what they had gathered from lawyers of the Penang-born businessman, popularly known as Jho Low, he was keen to seek a witness protection in exchange for information into the scandal.
The source said there are no dates yet for Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) officials to meet the lawyers from Kobre & Kim, a New York-based litigation boutique specialising in cross-border investigations and disputes practice, and Low himself in the Gulf emirate.
Low was earlier reported to be in either Australia or Macau.
Earlier, an online portal had reported that the Low lawyers were keen to meet up MACC officials to discuss areas which they can assist in the probe.
It was reported that Low’s lawyers had emailed the MACC, discussing the possible meeting in Dubai with them and Jho Low.
MACC believes Low holds crucial information on the scandal and can help them to identify, recover funds or asset, including jewellery, purchased with the 1MDB money.
Low has been sighted in Dubai many times since 2013, including meeting with top 1MDB officials and Malaysian politicians.
