Wan Azizah: I won’t be deputy PM if Anwar becomes PM


(The Star ) – Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr. Wan Azizah Wan Ismail said she will step down from the number two post in the government if her husband  become the prime minister.

She said, “This is not a big issue as the situation where the post of deputy prime minister and prime minister are held by husband and wife never happened before in this country.”

“That is not going to happen, I will consider to give way to him. It had always been my intention since the beginning and it shouldn’t be make an issue.”

“However, at the present the prime minister is Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad and I am his deputy,” she said. 

Wan Azizah also stated that her commitment to her role as the Women, Family and Community Development Minister remains unaffected by the Deputy Prime Minister position.

She was earlier accompanied by Kedah Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir to check on The Sungai Kedah / Anak Bukit Flood Mitigation Plan (RTB) project’ during her first official working tour to Kedah.
