There are people who still love Najib
Raja Sara Petra
Over the last week, close to RM2 million was raised from members of the public for Najib Tun Razak’s bail and legal fund. The fact that the government froze Najib’s bank accounts and confiscated all his assets is not the only reason why this donation drive was launched. It is also to demonstrate that there are still many Malaysians who love and support Najib and feel he is being unjustly treated and is a victim of political persecution.
When criticised about the alleged corruption in Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s 22 years as Prime Minister, his standard reply is he has never been convicted of any crime. Najib may have been charged but he, too, has never been convicted of any crime. But then why is Najib being treated like a convicted criminal? Is it because Mahathir says Najib is guilty so that means he is guilty?
The adage ‘innocent until proven guilty ‘should apply to everyone. Apparently, it does not apply to Najib, though. And yet Lim Guan Eng, who is also facing trial for corruption, is given the second most important job in Malaysia, the post of Finance Minister. If Guan Eng is innocent until proven guilty, then so is Najib. And that was the reason why many Malaysians donated close to RM2 million towards Najib’s bail and legal fund — because we regard him innocent until proven guilty.
Thanks to the Umno bahagians, Wanita Umno and Group Solidarity Najib for making this happen.
