More Than 50 MCA Branches Nationwide Are Dissatisfied With Wee Ka Siong Leadership – “Many Members Said They Will Quit The Party If That Happens”

(The Coverage) – POLITICIANS like MCA’s Dr Chua Soi Lek do not retire or fade away, they keep finding ways to come back.

‎The former health minister is expected to contest the party president’s position in the MCA elections – marking the second time that he is making a comeback.

With Dr Chua’s entry, the contest ‎for MCA’s top position is set to be a four-way fight, with deputy president Wee Ka Siong, and former vice presidents Donald Lim and Gan Ping Sieu also vying for the post.

Party officials aligned with Dr Chua told The Malaysian Insight he is hoping to ride the groundswell of unhappiness over MCA’s dismal performance in the 14thgeneral election and a suggestion by Wee Ka Siong that the party consider opening membership to all races.

“We’ve visited more than 50 branches nationwide. Many grassroots members are dissatisfied with the current leadership, especially the suggestion to open the party (to other races).

“Many members said they will quit the party if that happens,” said an official aligned to Dr Chua.

MCA is one of three parties left in Barisan Nasional after its shocking defeat in the May 9 polls.

The ethnic Chinese party was almost wiped out in GE14, winning only the Ayer Hitam parliamentary constituency with a slim majority of 303 votes, and two state seats.‎
