It may be good if Umno dies
And one man can do this, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad. Mahathir needs to reach out to PAS and Umno and together with PPBM, PKR and Amanah form a new Malay-Muslim alliance. Umno and PAS are ready to put party interests aside for the sake of Malay-Muslim solidarity. The Malays-Muslims needs to take back political domination and if it involves closing down or killing Umno for this to happen then so be it.

First read (BELOW) the article, ‘End of the road for Umno?’, written by TK Chua and published today in Free Malaysia Today.
Of course, the Chinese — 95% who voted for DAP and their cohorts in the 2008, 2013 and 2018 general elections — are happy that Umno is on the verge of dying. There is a very strong possibility Umno may no longer be around by GE15 in 2023 or so (for sure, Barisan Nasional will no longer exist).
Personally, I do not care too much about the parties or coalitions per se. For example, if Umno dies, the three million Malays will just migrate to another Malay party like they migrated from Umno to Umno Baru 30 years ago back in 1988.
Malay-Muslim solidarity overrides party interests
Umno, Umno Baru, Semangat 46, PAS, PKR, the Alliance Party, Barisan Nasional, Barisan Alternatif, Pakatan Rakyat — I have at one time or another been involved in all the above. And now, of course, we have PPBM, Amanah and Pakatan Harapan (which I have no dealings with whatsoever).
Nevertheless, whether it is Umno, Umno Baru, Semangat 46, PAS, PKR, PPBM, Amanah, the Alliance Party, Barisan Nasional, Barisan Alternatif, Pakatan Rakyat or Pakatan Harapan, one thing never changes. And that one thing is all the people behind these many parties and coalitions are the same people.
Let us look at the key players. Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah, Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, Anwar Ibrahim, Mat Sabu, Abdul Hadi Awang — plus their number twos and inner circle — all come from Umno and/or PAS. In fact, PAS was originally an Umno-splinter party — as are Umno Baru, Semangat 46, PKR and PPBM.
PAS is ready, it is now Umno’s turn
In short, Umno, which was formed in 1946, is the grandfather. Then the children called PAS, Umno Baru and Semangat 46 were born, followed by the grandchildren called PKR, PPBM and Amanah.
In short, also, the Umno blood runs through the veins of PAS, Umno Baru, Semangat 46, PKR, PPBM, and Amanah. And whatever fight PAS, Umno Baru, PKR, PPBM and Amanah may have, it is still a family feud involving five siblings.
The Chinese made the mistake of pushing too far and that resulted in PAS, Umno and PPBM now prepared to unite
But now it is time for the family to kiss and make up. PAS, Umno Baru, PKR, PPBM and Amanah need to sit down and talk about their common ground rather than keep harping on their differences.

End of the road for Umno?

I wish Umno would continue to exist as an opposition party for now, and perhaps at some point attain power again. Whether we like it or not, the country mustn’t lose sight of the two-party system. We should all know by now that a government without an effective opposition is both dangerous and treacherous.
But looking at the events that have unfolded since May 9, I get the inkling that Umno is in fact quite finished. I don’t think it can continue as it is given its tainted leadership.
So far, the former prime minister and former party president has racked up multiple charges. The former deputy prime minister, who is the current party president, has also been charged with multiple allegations of trust deficit and corruption.
A debate is now raging on whether the current president should step down pending his court case. My question is, does it matter? Either way, the party is damaged big time.
If Ahmad Zahid Hamidi remains as president, his attention will be divided due to his court case. If he resigns, there is no way of knowing whether the situation would improve if someone else takes over.
Right now, we have no way of knowing the extent of investigations within the Umno hierarchy. After the former prime minister, the former deputy prime minister and Rosmah Mansor, will there be others as well? The complete silence of some Umno leaders seems to suggest something rotten in the state of Denmark.
What if, after Zahid resigns, the next person who takes over is similarly charged after a few months? It’s time that Umno realises the government of the day will protect no one for now.
Even if the Umno Supreme Council decides to let Zahid go, the problem is not yet over. The council still has to decide who among the party leaders is “taintless” enough to take over. If the presidency is opened for contest again, I think anyone vying for the position must really examine his or her past.
This is how precarious Umno is today. Each person aspiring to lead the party must assess not just his or her own leadership qualities, but also any links to a chequered past.
Sometimes it’s best to concede if one is not up to mark. Leaders can’t pretend to continue fighting for king and country, race and religion once their hypocrisy is exposed
