Guan Eng says Irwan earned RM3 mil in 7 years but he and Azmin earned RM1 mil a year
Guan Eng reveals former treasurer-general Irwan Serigar earned RM3 million over 7 years but did not mention that he and Azmin Ali earned RM1 million a year
(FMT) – Former treasurer-general Irwan Serigar earned close to RM3 million between 2011 and June 2018, when his contract was terminated, the Dewan Rakyat was told.
Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng said Irwan’s income in 2011 was RM281,800.43, and RM495,711 in 2017. In 2018, when his tenure was shortened, he had earned RM230,048.13.
The income did not include other forms of income, such as allowances as board member, which are far higher than his emoluments as treasurer-general, Guan Eng (PH-Bagan) said in a written reply to Lim Lip Eng (PH-Kepong).
Guan Eng said Irwan had been promoted to deputy treasurer-general (policy) on Dec 31, 2010, and was appointed as treasurer-general on Aug 24, 2012, with mandatory retirement on March 6 last year.
“He was subsequently appointed on contract, beginning March 7, 2017 until March 6, 2019.
“However, his tenure was shortened to June 13. The total income he received from January 2011 to June 2018 was RM2,944,095.61,” he said.
According to Guan Eng, aside from being treasurer-general, Irwan had also held non-executive, non-independent or directorial positions in 23 companies under the Minister of Finance Incorporated.
Among the companies listed are 1MDB, where he was non-executive chairman; Khazanah Nasional Berhad (director); Malaysia Rail Link Sdn Bhd (non-executive chairman); Permodalan Nasional Berhad (non-independent non-executive director) and TRX City Sdn Bhd (non-executive chairman).
In those positions, Guan Eng said Irwan took home incomes of between RM9,000 and RM1,212,797.87, totalling RM3.868 million.
