Another PKR leader turns down state chief post

(FMT) – PKR’s Hassan Karim today became the second leader to turn down a senior post in the party, just hours after Nurul Izzah Anwar announced her resignation as the PKR vice-president following criticism of cronyism in the selection of state chiefs.

“Even my appointment to the Johor State Executive Council was disputed. So it is only fair for me to resign,” Hassan said in a statement.

He said the party should amend its constitution on selecting state chiefs, saying the process must be more transparent and democratic.

Earlier, Nurul Izzah, who is also the eldest daughter of PKR president Anwar Ibrahim, said she was resigning as the Penang PKR chief as well as the vice-president.

It comes in the wake of criticism by former Supreme Council member Latheefa Koya that the appoinment of PKR state chiefs smacked of cronyism.
