Bersatu: Ramasamy’s criticism of Syed Saddiq ‘too much’

Perak Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia says Penang Deputy Chief Minister II P. Ramasamy (pic) went overboard when he criticised Bersatu Youth chief Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman over the wing’s demands for P. Waytha Moorthy to step down as a minister.

(The Star) – Bersatu Youth had reportedly delivered a memorandum to Dr Mahathir, who is also the party chairman, urging that Waytha Moorthy be removed as the National Unity and Social Well-being Minister.

In response, Ramasamy criticised Syed Saddiq over the memo, saying that it constituted an insult as it questioned Dr Mahathir’s wisdom in appointing members of the Cabinet.

Perak Bersatu chief Mohd Hafez Mubin Mohd Salleh said Ramasamy’s actions were “too much” and that his accusations were unfounded.

“The handing-over of the memo to urge for the resignation of P. Waytha Moorthy to (Prime Minister) Dr Mahathir was to state Bersatu’s stance on this issue to him,” he said in a statement on Friday (Dec 21).

Mohd Hafez said Bersatu hoped the request would become reality, adding that the wing would however accept any decision made by Dr Mahathir.

Mohd Hafez also rebuked Ramasamy for his “double standards”, claiming that the latter had previously openly criticised Dr Mahathir’s decision in the past.

Dr Mahathir had previously stated that he had the final say on whether Waytha Moorthy should remain in the Cabinet.

This was following calls by many parties over Waytha Moorthy alleged failure to contain inter-racial tensions surrounding the Sri Maha Mariamman temple unrest in Subang Jaya and the death of fireman Muhammad Adib Mohd Kassim.
