Teresa Kok demands JMM’s Azwandin apologise, pay RM30mil in damages

(The Star) – Primary Industries Minister Teresa Kok is demanding for Jaringan Melayu Malaysia (JMM) president Datuk Azwanddin Hamzah Ariffin Abu Bakar to apologise and pay RM30mil in damages.

Kok is making the claim following a speech he made at a rally on Tuesday (Dec 25), which allegedly contained defamatory remarks against Kok.

Her legal representatives S. N. Nair and Partners gave Azwanddin seven days to comply with Kok’s demands before legal proceedings are initiated.

In a letter of demand issued on Wednesday (Dec 26), S. N. Nair and Partners said Azwanddin’s remarks gave the impression that Kok was a “racist”, had “abused her power as a minister” and that she was a “dishonest minister”.

Kok had demanded that Azwanddin immediately retract his statement and for his apology to be published in newspapers or media of her choice.

She also demanded that Azwanddin undertake not to repeat his allegations or comments.

Azwanddin was arrested for his speech at the rally in Klang, where he used provocative language and repeatedly used a derogatory word against National Unity and Social Wellbeing Minister P. Waytha Moorthy.

He also urged the crowd to attack a police station if no action was taken in the murder of firefighter Muhammad Adib Mohd Kassim.
