Ex-1MDB unit SRC director gets witness protection

(Bloomberg) – A key witness in a corruption case involving former Malaysian Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak has been placed under a witness protection program, according to a report in The Star citing an unidentified official at the nation’s anti-graft agency.

* Datuk Suboh Md Yassin, a former director at 1MDB unit SRC International, has been offered the protection pending the trial “as we believe he is in danger,” the report quoted the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission official as saying

* The official did not say if there was a specific threat against Suboh or if others involved in the SRC International trial were also given similar protection

* Authorities are also still trying to track down former SRC International managing director Nik Faisal Ariff Kamil

* NOTE: SRC, a former unit of 1MDB, is now controlled by the Malaysian finance ministry. Najib has been served with several counts of money-laundering breaches related to SRC. He has pleaded not guilty
