MACC clears PAS of the RM90 million donation allegation

This announcement does not augur well for Pakatan Harapan that is hoping to use this RM90 million issue as a campaign issue in the Semenyih by-election. Pakatan Harapan is hoping to discredit PAS and make the Islamic party appear as Umno’s ‘paid mercenary’. Or else PPBM may lose the by-election if PAS and Umno join forces.

NO HOLDS BARRED

According to The Malaysian Insight, the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has confirmed that they have not found any evidence that former prime minister Najib Tun Razak or Umno donated RM90 million to PAS or any of its leaders.

Husam Musa said he has personally seen the cheque for RM90 million. The MACC, however, says there is no cheque for RM90 million. In fact, they cannot even confirm the alleged video recording of the late Tok Guru Nik Aziz Nik Mat’s son saying that PAS has received donations from Umno.

Husam said he personally saw the RM90 million cheque but the MACC says no such thing

The MACC is now widening its investigation to include individuals known to be ‘PAS-friendly’ in case the RM90 million may have been channelled through them instead. The MACC admits that this is merely a fishing expedition but they hope this might uncover something although the chance of accidentally stumbling across something may not be that good.

PPBM secretary-general Marzuki Yahya said PAS needs to take a stand and release a statement regarding its support for Umno in the upcoming Semenyih by-election. “What do they mean when they say they support Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad? Please explain. If they want to support, support properly,” Marzuki told Free Malaysia Today.

A PAS-Umno cooperation means Pakatan Harapan will be denied 75% of the Malay votes

Marzuki’s statement is in response to the PAS rebuttal of prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s claim that the party will not support Umno in the 2nd March by-election. PAS deputy president, Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man, said PAS has already gone down to the ground to assist Umno in the Semenyih by-election campaign.

Pakatan Harapan’s only hope was for the MACC to announce that there is strong evidence that Najib or Umno paid PAS and/or its leaders RM90 million. Now that the MACC has announced otherwise, Pakatan Harapan sudah habis modal.
