MACC confirms Raja Petra is not lying
(FMT) – The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) today confirmed that it is investigating the Penang undersea tunnel project.
In a statement, MACC said it had opened six investigation papers on the matter since July 2017.
“Five investigation papers have been completed and referred to the deputy public prosecutor (DPP). Three investigation papers were returned to MACC for further investigation.
“Two more (investigation papers) are still being studied by the DPP. The remainder are being investigated by MACC.”
MACC’s statement follows a series of blog posts on the matter by UK-based blogger Raja Petra Kamarudin, which implicated Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng and several Penang state executive councillors in the investigations.
Lim, the former Penang chief minister, rubbished the claims, calling them “ridiculous lies”.
He said Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad had also called the allegations a lie, while MACC had lodged a police report against Raja Petra.
Zarul Ahmad Mohd Zulkifli, a director at Consortium Zenith Construction Sdn Bhd which is responsible for the project, also denied bribing officials in the state government as alleged by Raja Petra.
