DAP activist Jufazli arrested

(FMT) – Outspoken political activist Jufazli Shi Ahmad was picked up by police at his house earlier today after a police report was lodged against him.

It has not been ascertained whether he was picked up in Sandakan or Kuala Lumpur.

Confirming the arrest, a police source said it is not clear whether the former DAP member will be remanded yet.

The source also denied that police need an arrest warrant in such cases since there is already an official report against Jufazli.

In a live-stream on his Facebook page today, Jufazli showed at least four police personnel in his house who had come to pick him up.

He said he refused to follow them as they did not have an arrest warrant.

The video received 310,000 views, attracted 33,000 comments and was shared 6,669 times.

At least one police report had been lodged against Jufazli for his alleged attacks on Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

In the 58-minute video, he continued to accuse Mahathir of various crimes, including corruption, power abuse and colluding with PAS president Hadi Awang and Sarawak head of state Taib Mahmud.

“I will not give full cooperation to the police if they do not follow the law and their own procedures,” he said in the video.

Jufazli had been a staunch supporter of the new federal government until early last month and had showered praises on Mahathir and his leadership.

However, he changed his tune drastically from Feb 24 and started accusing Mahathir and the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) of trying to protect Hadi and former prime minister Najib Razak.

The first police report was lodged in Tawau this week by a local NGO and police sources told FMT that Jufazli may be brought to Tawau later today.
