Abdul Hamid Bador is new IGP, says Dr M

(FMT) – Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad today confirmed that Abdul Hamid Bador will be the new inspector-general of police.

“Yes I think it is him,” he told reporters after launching the national Labour Day celebrations at Putrajaya International Convention Centre today.

When asked if the appointment letter had already been sent to Abdul Hamid, who is currently acting deputy inspector-general of police, Mahathir said “I think the Agong has assented to it”.

Abdul Hamid, who was formerly deputy head of the Special Branch, went on early retirement in 2015 after he spoke up against the previous government’s alleged involvement in certain scandals.

In May last year, he was recalled by leaders of the new Pakatan Harapan government and appointed Special Branch director.

Last month, he took over as acting deputy IGP when Noor Rashid Ibrahim retired.
