Yapeim man still the boss despite threatening staff who vote for PH

A top officer of the Islamic Economic Development Foundation (Yapeim) who openly urged his staff not to vote for Pakatan Harapan (PH) in last year’s general election is still helming the government agency.

(FMT) – Yapeim chairman Mohd Daud Bakar confirmed to FMT that the man seen in a viral clip warning Yapeim staff against voting for PH is current director-general Abibullah Samsudin.

Daud also said that it was an “old video”.

At press time, Abibullah could not be reached for comment.

But his Facebook page has seen posts urging him to resign, a day after the clip showing him speaking to Yapeim staff was shared online by a religious preacher attached with PPBM, Abu Hafiz Salleh Hudin.

“You’re not fit to lead Yapeim. Please resign,” said one post, while another asked: “Muka tebal ke tu?” (Is that your thick-skinned face?)

In the clip, Abibullah warned staff not to support PH, the coalition which came to power in the historic May 9 polls.

When some members of the audience reacted by saying that their vote is secret, Abibullah said:

“I will check with the Election Commission all Yapeim staff, I will check one by one where you voted and who you voted for.

“If there are those who vote for Pakatan Harapan, you are not fit to work in Yapeim,” he was heard saying, adding that he too would be axed by the new government.

The revelation of the video comes hot on the heels of allegations of financial mismanagement in Yapeim, including one involving RM1 million meant for orphans that was allegedly used by Yapeim to pay its legal fees.
