1MDB money to Muhyiddin, Mukhriz and Shafie never went in their accounts, says Guan Eng

(FMT) – Lim Guan Eng today came to the defence of three former state Umno chiefs who have since joined Pakatan Harapan, following an opposition party’s call on him to state whether they too had received 1MDB money from Najib Razak.

The finance minister said Mukhriz Mahathir, Muhyiddin Yassin and Shafie Apdal, who once headed the Kedah, Johor and Sabah Umno state chapters respectively, never received 1MDB money in their personal accounts.

Lim had previously stated that there are more than 41 recipients of money allegedly from 1MDB, as named by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission in its recent civil forfeiture applications.

This was followed by Gerakan president Dominic Lau who asked Lim whether the recipients also included the trio.

But Lim today questioned Lau for not speaking up when 1MDB funds were discovered in Najib’s accounts.

“Gerakan failed to then question Najib Razak when money was banked into his personal account from 1MDB,” he told reporters after chairing the 2020 Budget Consultation Meeting at the finance ministry here.

Muhyiddin, who was sacked from the Cabinet in 2015 after a fallout with Najib over the handling of the 1MDB scandal, is now the home minister. Meanwhile, Mukhriz is the Kedah menteri besar and Shafie is the Sabah chief minister.
