To totally wipe out Umno it has to be buried
But the Umno people soon-to-be ex-Umno people are ready. As soon as Umno (Baru) has been deregistered, the application to register a new party called “Umno Malaysia” will be submitted to the RoS. And then the whole process of rebuilding Umno, again, will commence, just like what happened in 1988.
THE CORRIDORS OF POWER
Raja Petra Kamarudin
In the 1986 general election, PAS won just one parliament seat. At that time Kelantan was under Umno (which Umno won eight years earlier in 1978). Barisan Nasional won 148 out of 177 parliament seats (or 84%) and all the states.
In the 2004 general election, PKR won just one parliament seat. At that time Kelantan was under PAS (which PAS won 14 years earlier in 1990). Barisan Nasional won 198 out of 219 parliament seats (or 90.4%) and all states except Kelantan.
PAS was also wiped out in 1986 but now is the strongest Malay-based party in Malaysia
For all intents and purposes, PAS was wiped out in 1986 and PKR was wiped out in 2004. But they were not buried. So, because of that, both PAS and PKR bounced back up again like the legendary phoenix rising from the ashes.
Those two lessons in history show that if Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad or Pakatan Harapan wish to see Umno gone for good, then that party needs to be buried. It has to be totally burned and its ashes scattered from all corners of Malaysia.
As Mahathir himself admitted, Umno’s strength is its finances. And Mahathir should know because this was the system that he himself created when he took over in 1981. Umno is about money and needs money for its machinery to move. Hence, if you bleed Umno dry and leave it with no funds, then Umno will be lumpuh or paralysed.
Pakatan is trying to bankrupt Umno and the key leaders of the party to bury it for good
So, the first thing that Mahathir and Pakatan are doing is they are bankrupting the party and the key people in the party. The civil seizures and court cases (including using the Income Tax Department to go after so-called “tax dodgers”) are various methods being used to hit the Umno-Barisan Nasional people in their pockets. And those who do not have strong stomachs or cannot stand the heat resign from Umno-Barisan Nasional and defect to Pakatan Harapan.
Of course, some of the government action can be legally challenged and in the end the government may lose its cases. But that will be many years down the road and all Mahathir needs is these next one or two years. After that never mind what happens because it no longer matters.
So Umno must be buried and it has to be within this month or so. This is going to be just like back in 1988 when the Registrar of Societies (RoS) deregistered Umno. Umno (Baru) is expected to be deregistered soon, once the RoS finalises the list of the many crimes that the party has committed (mostly of receiving “money stolen from 1MDB”).
Umno refuses to be buried and Umno 3.0 is on the way
But the Umno people, soon-to-be ex-Umno people, are ready. As soon as Umno (Baru) has been deregistered, the application to register a new party called “Umno Malaysia” will be submitted to the RoS. And then the whole process of rebuilding Umno, again, will commence, just like what happened in 1988.
And who will lead the charge to register a new Umno or Umno Malaysia? It has to be someone who is acceptable to the young and the old Umno members alike, someone acceptable to the palace and the royal family, someone acceptable to most of the leaders and members of Pakatan Harapan, and someone seen as more a statesman than a politician.
Can you guess who that is?
