Najib: What does PM have to do with sex video probe?
(FMT) – Former premier Najib Razak has questioned the role of the prime minister, Dr Mahathir Mohamad, and the Attorney-General, Tommy Thomas, in the investigations being conducted into a gay sex video which has implicated PKR deputy president Azmin Ali.
In an online posting today, Najib also questioned the length of time taken for the investigation to ascertain the authenticity of the video, and pointed out that foreign experts had been able to state their findings on the video within a day of it being released.
Last month, a PKR Youth leader, Haziq Aziz, had said that he and Azmin were the two people shown in the video having sex. Haziq, who was also an aide to a deputy minister, accused Azmin of corruption and called for a police investigation.
Government officials have said the investigations were continuing and no time frame had been set.
However, Najib this evening asked why the results of the investigation should be submitted to the prime minister and not to the Public Prosecutor. He also asked why the police were receiving special instructions about the case from the Attorney-General.
Najib’s questions came in response to answers given separately by the Home Minister, Muhyiddin Yassin, and the Inspector-General of Police, Abdul Hamid Bador, to reporters yesterday.
Muhyiddin was quoted as saying that the video was still being investigated, there was no time frame in which to resolve the case, and “after that, we will submit the matter to the Prime Minister for further reference”. The Inspector-General of Police had been quoted as saying that the investigation could not be hurried and that the police “are also very cautious in this investigation as well as getting guidance from the Attorney-General’s office”.
Najib said: “Why should the police investigation be sent to the PM for further action and not to the prosecutor’s office? Why is it that after more than a month the police have not determined whether a video is valid while an overseas expert only took a day?”
He also questioned why the Attorney-General’s office should have to give special guidelines to the police for this case.
