Muhyidin: Both sides must be considered when dealing with Zakir Naik issue

Both sides have to be considered when dealing with any issues involving Dr Zakir Naik, says Home Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin (pic).

(The Star) – “Even though we respect his standing as an Islamic preacher, they are limits in the eyes of the law. This is why police investigations are ongoing,” he said.

Muhyiddin added that there has to be justice in the implementation of the rule of law.

“We are only using the facts and the data obtained from the police,” he added after officiating a seminar countering violent extremism on Monday (Aug 26) at the International Islamic University of Malaysia.

He added that just because a leader in his party met with the preacher, it did not mean that the Dr Zakir is now protected by Bersatu.

“To me, it doesn’t mean we are tied to anyone’s view, ” he said, commenting on Youth and Sports Minister Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman recent dinner with the preacher.

He also noted that other politicians have also met with the preacher.

“Nobody is above the law, ” said Muhyiddin.
