Pakatan Harapan to create 1 million new jobs before 2023, says minister

(FMT) – The Pakatan Harapan government will keep its promise to provide one million jobs by the end of its five-year term, Human Resources Minister M Kula Segaran said.

He said there are 640,000 jobs available at present, but the problem is that many of the youths are not interested in them.

“Promises will be kept. We have about 640,000 jobs available and these are not just 3D (dangerous, dirty and difficult) jobs.

“The problem is there are a lot of jobs but no one is keen to take them up,” he said when replying to a question from Ismail Sabri Yaakob (BN-Bera) in the Dewan Rakyat today.

He said the jobs include more than 21,000 professional and 22,000 technical jobs.

“There were previously 250,000 jobs in the green economy and more than 150,000 jobs have already been filled,” he said, adding that 20,000 active employers were offering jobs in various fields.

Kula also said a total of 23,168 workers were laid off last year, including 5,832, or 25.6%, offered the Voluntary Separation Scheme (VSS).

In the first nine months of this year, a total of 24,600 workers had been laid off, with 2,975 or 12.1%, offered VSS.

According to jobs portals, he said, there were 50,326 jobs for graduates and 642,979 jobs for non-graduates up till the end of August.
