Court dismisses LTTE charges against DAP rep

The Sessions Court here today allowed the prosecution’s application to dismiss two counts of possessing items related to the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) against DAP’s Seremban Jaya assemblyman P Gunasekaran.

(FMT) – The application was presented before justice Madihah Harullah by deputy public prosecutor Aslinda Ahad.

Gunasekaran was alleged to have LTTE-related items in his possession at his office and residence.

The offences were allegedly committed at No. 2844, Jalan SJ 3/6B, Taman Seremban Jaya and No. 139, Kampung Baru Rahang here at 9.58am and 11.50am respectively on Oct 10.

Gunasekaran, who was not present in court today, was represented by four lawyers led by Jelutong MP RSN Rayer.

Gunasekaran, who is also deputy chairman of Negeri Sembilan DAP, was charged at the Melaka Sessions Court on Oct 29 with supporting the LTTE group. He was slapped with an additional charge at the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court on Oct 31.

When met by reporters later, Rayer said he thanked the prosecution for the move.

“We were informed this morning after the charges were filed that they (the prosecutors) had decided to withdraw the two charges.

“No reason was given,” he added.

He said he hoped the same would be done for the LTTE-related charges against the others detained under the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act (Sosma) 2012.
