Anwar denies sexually assaulting Yusoff Rawther

(New Malaysia Times) – PKR President Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has denied allegations that he sexually assaulted Muhammed Yusoff Rawther (pic above).

In a statement today, Anwar said: “I strongly deny this baseless slander”.

He said that on the date alleged by the Yusoff, he was in Port Dickson campaigning for by-election and had attended an event commemorating the 150th birthdate of Mahatma Gandhi in Kuala Lumpur before returning to Port Dickson.

Anwar also said that his private secretary Shukri Saad would lodge a police report today on the matter and that his lawyer Ramkarpal Singh would be sending a letter of demand to Yusoff.

“Muhammed Yusoff Rawther’s family via Mohideen Abdul Kader had also issued a statement condemning his action a year after the alleged incident” Anwar said further before stating that the action is a ploy to tarnish his image ahead of the 14th PKR national congress and the power transition process.

Yusoff is estranged from family

Mohideen Abdul Kader, a relative of Yusoff, issued a statement yesterday saying that no one in the family was made aware of the alleged incident.

“The family is aware of a police report and a lawsuit against Anwar’s political secretary who was alleged to have beaten Yusoff, but they were never informed of the immoral act alleged”, says Mohideen.

“He has been estranged from the family since his grandfather passed away earlier this year.” Mohideen said.

“After more than a year since the alleged incident, and 2 days before PKR Congress, I believe that he is being manipulated by politicians with self-interest. I thought we had left sodomy-politics behind in New Malaysia, but unfortunately it kept being used repeatedly. I’m confident that the public will reject such politics.”

NMT is trying to contact Mohideen to clarify why his statement sounded like a politician with self-interest more than a relative to a victim.
