Malaysia’s backdoor politics and Sodomygate
Today, Malaysia has been hit by news of Anwar’s Sodomy 3.0 scandal. After this, a Sodomy 4.0 scandal will emerge. In fact, I have seen the Statutory Declaration for the Sodomy 4.0 scandal and have a copy. They are going to keep hitting Anwar until he ends up in jail. They are never going to give up until Anwar is ousted as Prime Minister-in-waiting and PM8 designate. That is the scenario of Pakatan Harapan’s Malaysia Baru.
THE CORRIDORS OF POWER
Raja Petra Kamarudin
According to the late Fadzil Muhammad Noor — the PAS President (from 1989 to 2002) and Opposition Leader in the Malaysian Parliament (from 1999 to 2002) — Anwar Ibrahim was not supposed to have joined Umno in 1982. He was supposed to have taken over as the PAS President with Fadzil Noor as his deputy.
Much to Fadzil Noor’s surprise and disappointment, Anwar did not join PAS and take over as the party president. Instead, Anwar joined Umno and took the long 11-year route to become the Deputy President of Umno and the Deputy Prime Minister of Malaysia.
Ustaz Fadzil Noor planned for Anwar to take over as the PAS President back in 1982
It may have taken Anwar 11 years from 1982 to 1993 to become Malaysia’s Prime Minister-in-waiting. But 11 years is not that long to become the Prime Minister-in-waiting from a nobody before that.
If Anwar had chosen the route charted by Fadzil Noor, which is to join PAS and take over as the party president, Anwar would never have fast-tracked from a nobody to Prime Minister-in-waiting in just 11 years.
Hence Anwar made the right choice. In PAS, and as the party president, he could not become Malaysia’s Prime Minister. In Umno, Anwar had a clean shot of becoming Malaysia’s Prime Minister. And he almost did become Malaysia’s Prime Minister. But 16 years after joining Umno, and maybe a year or two short of becoming Prime Minister, Anwar fell from grace and fell out of favour and was kicked out of the party and the government — and less than a month later ended up in jail until September 2004.
Ku Li managed to convince Mahathir to allow Anwar to join Umno to prevent him from going to PAS
That was how Anwar tried to become Prime Minister, according to what critics say was the ‘backdoor’ approach. Instead of using the front-door, which is join PAS and topple Umno to become Prime Minister, Anwar used the backdoor, which is join Umno and move up the ranks.
Anwar’s critics say before he joined Umno in 1982 he talked about perjuangan. In fact, Anwar was detained under the Internal Security Act in 1974 because of his perjuangan. But when Anwar joined Umno in 1982 it was no longer about perjuangan. It was about becoming Malaysia’s Prime Minister.
Even if that is true, as alleged by Anwar’s critics, so what? What is so wrong about aspiring to become Malaysia’s Prime Minister? Many people aspire to become Prime Minister. But not many know how to do it.
Anwar’s critics talk as if aspiring to become Prime Minister is a crime. Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad criticises the Malays and say they lack ambition. At least Anwar does not lack ambition. At least Anwar is ambitious enough to want Mahathir’s job. Hence Mahathir should praise Anwar, not condemn him.
Mahathir never wanted Anwar in 1982 and still does not want him till today
Mahathir said he had planned to allow Anwar to take over as Prime Minister around 1999 or 2000. But then in 1997 Anwar became impatient and plotted behind his back to topple him, said Mahathir. So he had no choice but to get rid of Anwar, explained Mahathir in an interview in Japan in 2004.
Is that true? Would Anwar have become Malaysia’s Fifth Prime Minister in 1999 or 2000 if he had been patient and did not plot behind Mahathir’s back, like what Mahathir said? I doubt it and I will explain why.
Mahathir did not initially want Anwar in Umno. When Anwar tried to join Umno in 1982 Mahathir blocked him. Mahathir hated Anwar and would not agree to Anwar becoming an Umno member. And it was Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah (Ku Li) who managed to ‘turn’ Mahathir and get him to change him mind.
Having Anwar in Umno may be an ‘evil’ but a necessary evil, said Ku Li. If Anwar joins PAS and takes over as the party president that would be worse, a far bigger evil. So, allowing Anwar to join Umno is the lesser of the two evils.
Anwar is an obstacle to Mukhriz and to Mahathir’s dream of a political dynasty
Anwar represented an ‘Islamic’ face. In fact, the western media called him a ‘firebrand’, what today they would call a ‘Taliban’. So, that would add ‘Islamic’ value to Umno and result in Umno being able to ‘steal’ some Muslim support from PAS. In the 1982 general election, PAS saw a drop in popular votes from 602,530 before that (in the 1978 general election) to just 537,720. Hence maybe the strategy worked.
So, did Anwar fall from grace and fall out of favour 16 years later because he was impatient and plotted against Mahathir, or did Mahathir never really intend for Anwar to take over as Prime Minister from the very beginning and would have got rid of Anwar anyway?
I choose the ‘less popular’ theory: Mahathir never really intended for Anwar to take over as Prime Minister from the very beginning and would have got rid of Anwar anyway — if not for sodomy then for something else.
Many would disagree with my theory and would argue that had Anwar been more patient he would have become Malaysia’s Fifth Prime Minister by 1999 or 2000. I disagree with that. And I would add that, until today, 5 December 2019, Mahathir still does not want Anwar as PM8 whether on or before 9 May 2020 or by 2023.
Anwar may end up in jail instead of Putrajaya if he cannot handle Mahathir

Mahathir is never going to voluntarily allow Anwar to become PM8. The only way that is going to happen would be if you put a gun to Mahathir’s head, figure of speech, of course. So Anwar had better get his gun ready and point it to Mahathir’s head. If not then the only future for Anwar would be yet another trip to the Penjara Sungai Buloh for yet another sodomy crime.
