Lawyer says Yusoff Rawther will continue to cooperate with police
(FMT) – Lawyer Mohamed Haniff Khatri Abdulla said Muhammed Yusoff Rawther will provide police his full cooperation as they spent a second day questioning him about his claim that Anwar Ibrahim tried to outrage his modesty last year.
“Again, like yesterday, Yusoff fully cooperated with the police,” said Haniff in a statement today.
“If required, (he) will do so and give further statements from time to time as requested by police to ensure a complete and thorough investigation is done on his report.”
Haniff’s client spent around three hours at the Bukit Aman police headquarters this afternoon giving the Classified Criminal Investigation Unit further statements before police took him out of the building through a separate exit to avoid reporters.
The 26-year-old Yusoff was not accompanied by Haniff during his questioning today.
A former research assistant at Anwar’s office in Petaling Jaya, Yusoff was questioned for eight hours yesterday on his allegations that the PKR president sexually assaulted him in October 2018.
Denying the allegations, Anwar maintained that Yusoff’s claim was politically motivated and said he would lodge a police report on the matter.
Anwar’s lawyer, Ramkarpal Singh, has served Yusoff a letter of demand to retract the allegation.
Police are investigating Yusoff’s claim under Section 354 of the Penal Code for assault or use of criminal force with the intent to outrage modesty.
