PKR Youth wants Anwar be made PM this May

(FMT) – The resignation of former education minister Maszlee Malik and Johor menteri besar Osman Sapian before that proves that a harmonious transition of power can occur within the Pakatan Harapan government, PKR Youth chief Akmal Nasir said today.

He said members should respect such top-level decisions.

He also urged the PH secretariat to fix a specific date for PKR president Anwar Ibrahim’s transition to power as the eighth prime minister at the upcoming PH presidential council meeting.

He suggested that this meeting fix May 2020 as the date for the transition.

“The PKR Youth (AMK) welcomes the statement by the Pakatan Harapan secretariat chief regarding our commitment to the implementation of the promises contained in the election manifesto and Muafakat PH on Jan 6, 2018 to support Anwar as the eighth prime minister after Dr Mahathir Mohamad.”

Akmal said any agreement for the date of transition will further reflect unity within the government and disprove any perceptions of party infighting, as often played up by the opposition.

Recently, Maszlee Malik quit his post as education minister after being advised by the prime minister, amid controversies over his education policies.

Meanwhile, Penang state exco member and Seberang Jaya PKR assemblyman Dr Afif Bahardin said a study conducted by the KRA Group last November showed that 70% of the people were not overly concerned over the transition of power issue.

“People are more concerned about issues related to the cost of living,” he said in a statement.

He said Mahathir had already stated that the question of transition was guaranteed and will take place once the country was in a stable condition.
