Zuraida’s sacking: tension outside PKR HQ

(FMT) – PKR’s Central Leadership Council (MPP) is not discussing any proposal for the sacking of vice-president Zuraida Kamaruddin today.

Speaking to reporters outside the party’s headquarters, vice-president Chang Lih Kang said the issue is not on the meeting’s agenda.

“We are deliberating disciplinary issues, but the question of her sacking is not being discussed,” Chang said after seeking to calm tensions between two groups of members engaged in a shouting match at the PKR headquarters here.

Also seen trying to calm the supporters was Kedah PKR chief Johari Abdul.

One group is supporting Zuraida, the housing and local government minister, while the other is calling for her dismissal.

Rumours had been rife that Zuraida, a staunch ally of deputy president Mohamed Azmin Ali, could be sacked.

Zuraida had been accused of insulting party members and publicly disclosing details of a private conversation with party president Anwar Ibrahim.

Earlier, the two groups chanted slogans and taunted each opther before being separated by police and told to keep their distance.

Tempers flared when the anti-Zuraida group held up banners calling for her sacking. Zuraida’s supporters came to confront them but the police kept the two groups from each other and told them to move back.
