Thai govt: Accusations of PM’s role in 1MDB ‘groundless’

(TheStar) – The government has rejected as “groundless” the recent accusation by the dissolved Future Forward Party of Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-Cha being involved in the 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB), one of the biggest financial scams in Malaysia.

Government spokeswoman Narumon Pinyosinwat denied the allegation on her Facebook and Twitter accounts, adding that related agencies are now considering pursuing legal action against the accuser and will make a public announcement to clarify the matter.

Narumon added that the accusation will only cause confusion in the minds of the public.

On Sunday, Future Forward Party spokesperson Pannika Wanich spent an hour and a half making their case against Prayut for his performance over the last six years and four months without an opposition.

She had also said that the premier was involved with the 1MDB scandal during the censure debate arranged by the now-defunct opposition party.

Pannika said that the Future Forward Party, which was dissolved by the charter court on Friday, would continue the promises that they had made during the general election campaign as political activists instead of as politicians.
