Khalid presses on, tells Dr M to make way for Anwar
(FMT) – Amanah’s Khalid Samad has openly called for Dr Mahathir Mohamad not to continue as prime minister, even as MPs throng the Istana Negara in the quest to fill the power void in Putrajaya.
The former federal territories minister insists that PKR president Anwar Ibrahim be appointed as the eighth prime minister.
“Tun must resign. Be the interim prime minister. Give chance to DSAI (Anwar) to become the 8th PM.
“This is not a hereditary position or one that can be passed on. There must be majority support from MPs. I hope PPBM fulfills the promise. Tun is 7th PM, Anwar is 8th PM,” Khalid wrote on Twitter today.
It is understood that a majority of MPs from all sides have thrown their support behind Mahathir, who resigned as prime minister this week following a flurry of political meetings on Sunday.
It is not clear whether Khalid’s call is reflective of a decision taken by Pakatan Harapan’s presidential council last night.
Khalid was among several Cabinet ministers who were said to be the most vocal in calling for Mahathir’s resignation, during a meeting of top PH leaders last week.
