The attacks on Perikatan Nasional are coordinated
If they want Pakatan Harapan as the government, why collapse the government in the first place? If they want Mahathir back as the Prime Minister, why pressure him to resign in the first place? If they do not agree with the Agong’s decision, why throw the problem onto the Agong’s lap in the first place? Pakatan Harapan sets fire to the house, and when the fire-brigade tries to put out the fire you accuse the firemen of burning down the house.
THE CORRIDORS OF POWER
Raja Petra Kamarudin
Have you noticed that a Blitzkrieg has been launched on Perikatan Nasional? The attacks are coming from all over the world and from all fronts. Sarawak Report, which has been sleeping for some time, is now coming out with daily articles. Suddenly, Clare Rewcastle Brown is no longer unemployed.
But everything all these foreign ‘journalists’ write is utter nonsense. Of course, the DAP and Pakatan Harapan supporters choose to believe this nonsense because they are living in denial and they would rather believe lies than the truth, mainly because the truth hurts.
The truth they refuse to see is that Pakatan Harapan brought about the collapse of Pakatan Harapan. No one else did that to Pakatan Harapan. Pakatan Harapan did it to themselves.
So, why blame Seri Paduka Baginda Yang Di-Pertuan Agong, Abdul Hadi Awang, Muhyiddin Yassin, Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, Najib Tun Razak, Umno, PAS, Muafakat Nasional, the Year of the Rat, the Coronavirus, 1MDB, Jho Low, the Saudi Arabian prince, or whatever? Pakatan Harapan collapsed Pakatan Harapan. All other ‘theories’ are utter nonsense.
For more than a year, Pakatan Harapan has been pressuring Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad to resign and hand power to Anwar Ibrahim. They vilified Mahathir. They scolded Mahathir. They threatened Mahathir. They promised Plan B if Mahathir does not resign. They promised Reformasi 2.0 if Mahathir refuses to hand over power to Anwar.
Finally, they held a Pakatan Harapan presidential council meeting where they ‘banged table’ and shouted at Mahathir. DAP leaders, Amanah leaders, even PPBM’s Zahid Md Arip, Mahathir’s own political secretary, went for Mahathir’s jugular.
Mahathir was treated like dirt and Mukhriz Mahathir said his father broke down and cried three times during that meeting. In short, they broke Mahathir’s heart (even though many say he does not have one) so he decided to throw in the towel and resign.
Why did Pakatan Harapan push Mahathir to the point of resignation? Only Pakatan Harapan can reply to that question, but when they decided to ‘kill’ Mahathir the future of Pakatan Harapan was left in jeopardy.
Maybe Mahathir merajuk or they broke his heart or he has had enough of the pressure, which is why he resigned — which we can understand and accept. But what Mahathir should have done is, either resign and request the Agong to dissolve Parliament so that GE15 can be held, or resign and nominate his successor (like what he did back in July 2002 — and what Tun Hussein Onn also did in 1981 and Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi did in April 2009).
But Mahathir did neither. He just resigned and left a vacuum. It is like a pilot parachuting out of the plane with no pilot to take over and the plane flying on autopilot.
Someone has to take over or a new general election must be held. Mahathir did neither of that. Hence it was now left to the Agong to decide what to do. And His Majesty did what the law and the Constitution stipulates must be done and allows.
His Majesty the Agong did not launch a coup, as what the anti-Perikatan Nasional writers are saying. His Majesty the Agong did not transgress democracy. His Majesty the Agong did not go against the wishes of the voters in the May 2018 general election. His Majesty the Agong did not violate the Federal Constitution. His Majesty the Agong did not topple Pakatan Harapan.
Mahathir abandoned the house and did not put someone in charge of looking after the house. Mahathir just walked away and left a void. Someone had to do something. And His Majesty the Agong was that someone.
Why did Pakatan Harapan act the way it did? Why did Mahathir act the way he did? Hence the Agong had to act the way His Majesty did because of what Pakatan Harapan and Mahathir did.
The Agong did not oust the government. Mahathir ousted the government. The Agong stepped in to restore the government. And now they are attacking the Agong’s government and are saying all sorts of nasty things about it.
