Annuar calls for ceasefire on cabinet composition

(Malaysiakini) – Umno supreme council member Annuar Musa has urged his party colleagues to stop disputing the composition of Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin’s cabinet.

“BN leaders should focus on ways to help people. Support the prime minister and government’s effort to handle the Covid-19 outbreak, economic problems and (improve) harmony among the rakyat,” he said.
Officially, Umno has committed to supporting Muhyiddin as prime minister until the next general election.

However, the composition of Muhyiddin’s cabinet has been a sore point for several senior Umno members and the Progressive Democratic Party (PDP).

Among the most vocal has been Penggerang MP Azalina Othman Said, who publicly said the cabinet composition should be proportional to party representation in Parliament.

PDP president Tiong King Sing snubbed his appointment as the deputy minister of national unity on grounds that it was not befitting of someone of his experience and stature.

However, the most critical voices had come from Umno deputy president Mohamad Hasan and vice-president Khaled Nordin.

Mohamad said Umno was being “sidelined” in Muhyiddin’s cabinet by being appointed to “non-critical” portfolios.

Khaled took potshots at Muhyiddin’s cabinet by claiming that amoral people who switched parties were appointed.

As for Annuar, Muhyiddin appointed him as the Federal Territories minister.
