Perikatan hands over 23 SDs expressing no confidence in Mukhriz to Kedah Sultan

(Yahoo News) – Kedah ruler Sultan Sallehuddin Ibni Almarhum Sultan Badlishah has been presented with 23 statutory declarations (SDs) from state assemblymen proposing a new candidate to replace Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir, says PAS secretary-general Datuk Takiyuddin Hassan.

There are 36 state elected representatives in Kedah and 23 assemblymen make up nearly two-thirds of the total in the state assembly.

The party presidents of Umno, PAS and Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) met with the Sultan at his palace in Kuala Lumpur today and presented 23 statutory declarations (SDs), said Takiyuddin said when contacted Wednesday (May 13).

“I was present at the meeting with the Sultan and the three presidents – Bersatu’s Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, who is also the Prime Minister, Umno’s Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang.

“They informed the Sultan that their parties agreed with the candidate that has been named in the 23 SDs to replace Mukhriz as the Kedah MB.

“The meeting was an amicable one and the Sultan received the SDs,” Takiyuddin said.

He added that the assemblymen decided to send the SDs to the Sultan because they felt these would hold up better in a court of law compared to a vote of no-confidence in the state assembly.

It is believed that the 23 state assemblymen have proposed Jeneri assemblyman and Kedah PAS deputy commissioner 1 Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor as the new mentri besar.

The meeting of the Sultan and the party presidents came just an hour after an announcement by Mukhriz that he was still Kedah Mentri Besar.

Mukhriz rubbished claims he had lost majority support in the state assembly, adding that the Pakatan Harapan-led state government still existed.

“I am still the Mentri Besar, the government is still intact. That is why we are still able to convene an exco meeting today,” he said during a press conference at Wisma Darul Aman on Wednesday (May 13).

On Tuesday (May 12) two PKR assemblymen aligned to former party deputy president Datuk Seri Azmin Ali quit the party with immediate effect.

The duo, Azman Nasrudin (Lunas) and Dr Robert Ling Kui Ee (Sidam) said they had lost confidence in the party.

On the same day, Sanusi announced that 23 assemblymen, comprising 15 from PAS, two from Barisan Nasional, two former PKR members and four from Bersatu, indicated their loss of confidence in Mukhriz’s leadership as mentri besar.
