Muhammad Sanusi sworn in as new Kedah MB
(Feeder.co) – Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor has been sworn in as the 14th Kedah Mentri Besar on Sunday (May 17).
The Jeneri state assemblyman took his oath of office before Kedah’s Sultan Sallehuddin Ibni Almarhum Sultan Badlishah in a private room at Wisma Darul Aman here at about 3.05pm.
A press conference by Sanusi, who is also Kedah PAS deputy commissioner 1, has also been scheduled to be held at the building.
Earlier Sunday, outgoing mentri besar Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir announced his resignation with immediate effect.
Mukhriz said this was after he had lost the majority support in the state legislative assembly.
“This morning I had informed Tuanku Sultan (Sultan of Kedah Al Aminul Karim Sultan Sallehuddin Sultan Badlishah) that I have lost majority support among the state assemblymen, and therefore I am relinquishing my position as Mentri Besar of Kedah Darul Aman with immediate effect,” he said in a press conference at Wisma Darul Aman.
On Tuesday (May 12), two assemblymen from PKR, Azman Nasrudin (Lunas) and Dr Robert Ling Kui Ee (Sidam), quit the party and threw their support behind the Perikatan Nasional government.
On the same day, Sanusi announced that 19 out of 36 Kedah assemblymen had lost confidence in Mukhriz’s leadership.
Talk then started circulating that Sanusi was the man for the top job after 23 state assemblymen proposed him as the new mentri besar.
