Agreement on Pakatan’s choice of PM reached

Announcement will be made within a week

(FMT) – Pakatan Harapan (PH) today said the coalition had a “comprehensive” discussion but were tight-lipped on specifics as top leaders emerged out of a rare meeting attended by former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad and PKR president Anwar Ibrahim.

The meeting, which lasted three hours, was chaired by Anwar at the PKR headquarters.

“Today’s meeting saw a comprehensive discussion on the views of each party, and showed very positive progress,” said a joint statement by five leaders including Shafie Apdal of Warisan, the coalition’s ally in Sabah.

The statement said a decision on the outcome of the meeting today will be made within a week.

Shafie, alongside DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng and Amanah president Mohamad Sabu were also among those who attended the meeting.

It is believed that the meeting discussed the coalition’s candidate for prime minister, following several conflicting claims for the top post since the coalition’s collapse in February.

The political turmoil this year saw the coalition booted out of Putrajaya after Mahathir’s resignation as prime minister as well as the exit of PPBM.

This was followed by PKR, DAP and Amanah naming Anwar as their prime ministerial candidate in their bid to return to power.
