DAP brokering peace treaty between Mahathir and Anwar with Mukhriz as the offering
DAP feels Mahathir does not really want to come back as Prime Minister for the third time. What he really wants is to perpetuate his dynasty and protect his family by ensuring that Mukhriz will become PM9 or PM10. If not, Mahathir’s family may be in danger once he is gone, which may not be that too far into the future.
THE CORRIDORS OF POWER

DAP knows that Pakatan Harapan’s hope of getting back into power is zero as long as the power-struggle between Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad and Anwar Ibrahim does not end. Even if Pakatan Harapan does have 115 MPs with them, as they claim, with Pakatan Harapan split into two, Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin will still win with the largest minority (as opposed to the two smaller minorities of Mahathir and Anwar).
At the end of the day, that would mean no one has the majority in parliament. It will merely be a tussle between three minorities. And in this case, Muhyiddin has the largest of the three minorities.
The only way Pakatan Harapan can unseat Muhyiddin, in the event it is true they have 115 seats, would be for both Mahathir and Anwar to combine their votes. And that would mean only one of them can be Prime Minister.
DAP is hoping Mahathir will make way for Anwar to become PM9 if Mukhriz is made the DPM
Mahathir has already extended the olive branch in his latest press conference when he said he does not really want to be Prime Minister. After all, said Mahathir, he is already too old and has only a few months left to live. That is his signal that he is open to some sort of compromises with Anwar.
On that cue, DAP has taken up Mahathir’s “offer” by discussing with Anwar that DAP is prepared to talk to Mahathir and offer his son, Mukhriz, the post of Deputy Prime Minister if Mahathir agrees to make way for Anwar to become PM9.

DAP wants to use Mukhriz as the offering to get Mahathir to make way for Anwar
Meanwhile, Muhyiddin’s boys are working on a few possible defectors so that the gap can be widened even further, as it is now too narrow. It seems a number of PKR and Amanah MPs are open to crossing over if the terms are right — and negotiations are ongoing even as you read this.
Expect things to get even more interesting as we get closer to July when the vote of no confidence against Muhyiddin is being planned. Currently, Umno and PAS or Muafakat Nasional do not wish to rock the status quo and will stand behind Muhyiddin, at least until GE15, which may see new alignments being drawn up.
