PH postpones announcing PM candidate

Anwar insists Tun Dr Mahathir is still a member and Chairman of Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia

(NST) – Pakatan Harapan had to postpone announcing its prime minister candidate although the pact had already achieved a consensus on the matter.

This was revealed by PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim who said that the delay was also because PH needed to refer its decision to Parti Warisan Sabah and Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s camp in Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia.

The Port Dickson member of parliament said instead of focusing on the prime minister candidate issue, PH preferred to shift its attention on matters related to the public.

“For us, changes are needed and must be expedited, but not at the expense of sacrificing our principles. Changes are needed to settle the people’s grievances.

“We must first change people’s lives and also provide confidence to our investors.

“This is why we (PH) had to postpone our announcement on the prime minister candidate,” he said during a Facebook live session aired on his page.

Yesterday, PH secretary Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said discussions on choosing a prime minister candidate among PH allies were still ongoing.

On the public’s support toward PH, Anwar admitted that the pact was facing difficulties on the matter, adding that it was caused by the pact’s “attempt to make several changes”.

“For PH, this is a concern. We would like to make great changes (for the country) but experience taught us that it is not easy to gain the people’s support,” he said.
