PKR Saratok division deputy chief, 25 committee members quit party

(FMT) – The PKR Saratok division deputy chief and 24 committee members resigned from the party today, saying they have lost confidence in party president Anwar Ibrahim.

Barang@William Usup said the party had lost its direction and only focused on appointing Anwar as the country’s next prime minister.

“We are disappointed with the party as its members have been focusing on fulfilling its president’s personal agenda to be the next prime minister instead of fighting for the reformation agenda,” he said in a statement.

The 25 members pledged their support for Saratok MP Ali Biju, who was among the three Sarawak MPs who left PKR following the political crisis in February. The others were Selangau MP Baru Bian and Puncak Borneo MP Willie Mongin.

“Our support for Ali all this while is based on his personal capacity and not the party. It is also undeniable that the party’s strength in Saratok had depended on the strong leadership under Ali,” Usup said.

He said they also believed that Ali could develop the constituency for the benefit of the people in his capacity as deputy energy and natural resources minister.
